I always assumed childs was a thing because of the missing coat shot...

The 2011 one is a prequel...I assume it learned to put the earring back on since that was a giveaway of who was infected and who wasn't in that film...

Just no other reason for that shot other than to make you think he had become infected...

Gonna check this out but there’s also a theory that humans in that movie have a little twinkle in their eyes and the thing doesn’t. In the last scene, macready has it and childs doesn’t.

this is probably my favorite movie of all time and it’s so fukkin dope that the ending can still be debated almost 40 years later

Y'all do know there's an official sequel in comic form and childs was not the thing at the end of the movie right.....he turned in the second comic

For what it’s worth even if something becomes canon later I don’t always view it that way ya know? Like...for example in the new terminator
They kill John Connor immediately following the events of T2. But James Cameron clearly meant for John to survive the story back when he concluded it in 1991.

Or like how Hicks technically survived Aliens and Alien 3 because that goofy Colonial Marines video game story is now official Alien canon.

So I go back and forth on whether Child’s was the thing or not but I don’t think Carpenter was making any creative decisions thinking there would be a sequel in mind.

Gang violence...
the official word is look at the reflection in the eyes, so you dont need to dig too deep into what happened. everybody should have a scene where they have light shining in the eyes. at the end, childs does not

I interviewed John Carpenter years ago and he told me it wasn’t just the critics shytting on THE THING but horror and sci-fi fans too felt like he was shytting on a classic. It really hurt his career at the time. It took some years for public to catch on

Now im confused about childs

Breh got infected. :wow: For the longest, I thought both of them were normal but the video points out that Childs accepted MacReady's drink without hesitation, can't believe I didn't think of that. Knowing how Childs was in the movie he would have at least given MacReady the :aicmon: when he offered him the bottle.

This vid kinda shatters the gasoline in the bottle theory.
