He was top ten player but not in his prime yet.
U can play baseball for along time so your prime can come much later compared to other sports.
Not really.
Miguel Cabrera is already on the down slope of his career and he's 34.
Pujols was effectively finished as an elite player at 33.
Most guys prime lasts from about 25-30 in baseball.
To Bonds' credit, he was still incredible in 1998 (before the juice) when he was 33.
It's a certainty that his skills would have diminished significantly within the next 2 years. And it's very likely he would have faced nagging injuries that wouldn't have healed. Instead he was on the juice (got injured from training in 1999) and went on to hit 351 more homers.
It's true, Bonds was an enormous talent on the juice hitting against inferior talent on the juice. But it's not as simple as that.
And despite what people may think about playing well into your late 30s....everybody isn't David Ortiz (who was on the juice himself)
My honest opinion, even if Bonds never took anything, he could have been an extremely effective DH in the American League. But no teams wanted him because of his jerk reputation ASIDE from the PEDs allegations
