If I'm not mistaken Nas got a Gold Plaque for shipping.
There was a lot of people who said they couldn't find Life Is Good first week and it was sold out everywhere, I myself went to my Army PX as well as the Best Buy in Savannah and they were sold out as well. Def Jam fukked up that first week.
Cruel Summer suffered from not dropping in the actual SUMMER when Mercy was buzzing crazy. And then the actual album itself was underwhelming to say the least
I saw MTV mentioned that he did go gold on the hottest MC list but nowhere else like Billboard. I dont want to make the excuses for him, but I do think that Def Jam didnt ship out any additional units. Maybe they figured he doesnt go platinum like he used and he had been 4 years away from the game solo wise.
You remember initally it was forecast to only sell 100k first week and ended up doing 149k . It hung around the billboard 200 for 8 months pushing 3k or 4k here or there. I cant speak for US stores but here in the UK after the first couple of months you couldnt find a copy. and they never re-stocked . If you go to any HMV (if there's still ones around) They still stock all his other joints but once you get past Hip Hop is Dead you cant find his next 3 projects anywhere a few months after they are out.
Then again, I probably saw more people who came up to me begging for a free copy or download link
I dont really get where he's projected to be now. Hes still big enough to do festivals and even arenas for his shows but hes not priority for radio spins and units pushed now. Which is logical for an older act but at the same time, you kinda feel like Def Jam could still get some mileage out of him given the fact he remains high profiled compared to other music acts that have been around as long as he has
It'll be interesting to see how they approach the next album and also if people will still support him. I think this album put him back in people's heads a little but for whatever reason we live in an era where you gotta choose which artist to support rather than cop em all who might be dope.
