Gonna play devils advocate: That's precisely why there is so much more focus on celebrities because their lives do matter more than everyone elses.

When people are taking valuable time out of their lives just to "keep up" with what is going on in a select few people's live... they are making a resounding statement that "these people matter more than everyone else"

I mean think about it, Reality TV is basically watching someone else live their life. The culture of celebrity that exists is incredibly powerful.
