Dominique Wilkins is in the Hall and his career is about the same as Melo's

But then again Dominique has notoriety because of his out of this world leaping ability which was almost unheard of during his time. What is it about Melo that we can say we've never seen before?
Nique has legendary moments. U cant tell the story of the NBA w/o mentioning nique.

That's a much better wayof saying it.

I don't get why his desire is measured by his monetary decisions. Maybe Carmelo doesn't start competing til he hits the court, so he doesn't worry about trying to GM his way to making it easier for him to win, like Lebron did/does. Not every player is looking for the easiest road to a championship. Maybe Carmelo, like James Harden, wanted to spend his career as the best player on his team to take on the challenge of leading his team to a championship, instead of teaming up and having other players make it easier for him, especially after leading Syracuse to a championship as a freshman.

Why does it matter whether he chose money over a team with more talent? Who does that hurt? It doesn't take away from his special offensive skill and the great numbers he's put up. As fans we've just been robbed of the opportunity to see him show those skills on the biggest stage.

But that's not his fault, it's the Knicks. They amnestied Billups and signed Tyson Chandler instead of holding onto it, amnestying Amare and going after CP3 the next year. The Knicks insisted on trading for him instead of signing him in free agency and holding onto Wilson Chandler, Mozgov, and Gallinari.

And even then, Melo had to play in the West during the Kobe, Duncan, Dirk era, and in the East in the Big Three Heat & Big Three Cavs era.

It's no knock on Melo that he hasn't won, and I can't say he isn't trying to win.

But since joining the Knicks, when has Melo ever played with a better player? When did he ever have the opportunity to defer, like Wade did in Lebron's 2nd year with the Heat?

The Knicks haven't had a better player since he's been there. So it makes sense that he'd rely on his skill over anything else, because he never had better alternatives. I bet he'd defer to Lebron, or be more willing to change his game if he played with Chris Paul.

phil jackson is horrible and the knicks have done a bad job of putting a winning roster together, but melo did play with amare and have d'antoni as his coach and we didn't see any changes. maybe melo can play off the ball or second fiddle with someone he's close to like bron or paul but if he can't do it with porzingis or amare then i don't see it happening and why does he need these special circumstances to win? he's allegedly a superstar but can't even get the 8th seed in the east or close to it:hhh:

Breh...
This is some flawed money on a pedestal shyt.

nikka, if you were a billionaire and you went golfing with your billionaire friends and yall are competitive... You're going to want to win.

Where are people getting this idea that money SHOULD turn a human being into a mink wearing robot?:what:

Brehs make being rich sound weak as fukk.

Either you're a competitive person or not.
that's not even the same analogy though...

nobody is saying he doesn't want to win one at all... they are saying he's not about to take a pay cut to do so

the plan was to all take pay cuts and go to miami.. him, wade and bron... instead of doing that, melo took a 5 year deal instead of a 4 year, so he could max the money

he didn't want to go to ny for the rings... he went cause the money and the access to the ny market for endorsements

so it would really be like saying you are a billionaire... would you cut your money by 30% in order to win a golf game?

Now that, I agree with.

As a fan, I want every player to play for 1 dollar so we could stack the roster, but as a person, as a man w/ a career, I can't see why any hard working player should take a pay cut.

I didn't view the breh's comment like that, though.

It raises an interesting question, too. I imagine Chris Paul, as head of the NBPA, is telling players NOT to take pay cuts. It kind of undermines an athlete's work product.

As a union, they have to view player worth the same way home owners in a particular community view housing value. If someone on your block undersells his home by a few hundred thousand or a few million, that's have ramifications and set a new standard for the worth of other homes/players.

Brehs need to get all of the money they want.

Now, on Melo, I believe he's an imperfect player but I do think he's playing to win.

Agree with every word breh

Maybe at the end of your career, after you've stacked the money and obtained your financial goals... that's when it's cool to become a journeyman for the ring. Or even for the love of wanting to be in a location or with another player

On one hand bron and kd and such will get the rings they want. I think even they inside know, damn I had to devalue myself, and run for help, in my prime, just to get it.

If melo were to somehow win a ring in New York while never having to do that, it'd be much sweeter

But at this point, probably his next contract being his last, I wouldn't blame him for saying just give me 15 and I'm going to the spurs
