They've been going down the road of abandoning their audience since the N64...if u think Nintendo's audience was only muhfukkas who cared about Mario n shyt than u musta not have owned an NES or SNES...which is why SNES is still considered their GOAT system if not THE GOAT system...nikkas always promise to try new things for gamers just to mask their true intentions..and it barely happens by the time the gen is over...Nintendo could've did FAR more to cater to true gamers this past gen..but they barely did shyt...it came off like ALL they cared about was casual gamers...and it gave people a bad taste in their mouths and rubbed people the wrong way...u NEVER abandon ur core audience..they should be a PRIORITY...NOT an afterthought...period...

Well I just disagree that they abondoned their audience. They tried to expand it, but people that love Nintendo still buy all their stuff. The audience they abandoned was the madden/COD crowd. They left them so they could cash in on the non-gamer crowd. It worked for a while, but the experience was shallow and couldn't keep people engaged. With Xbox and playstation so popular, I think it was smart to bow out of that fight and try something different.

Son..do u know how many NINTENDO fans gave up on Nintendo after this last gen?...they didnt "expand" their audience...they made their main audience SECONDARY g..this is a known thing for the Wii...a fact...that has been stated a million times...and they've been slowly abandoning their audience since N64 dropped...like I said..what made Nintendo popular and sell wasnt just Mario n Zelda..it was the Versitility in games from hardcore to casual....and when they were in competition...they competed for the best multiplatform games...which is why SNES was so successful...THAT system was a good balance of both...by the time N64 came out...the audience tried to stay loyal and stick with them even tho they made a terrible decision in keeping games cartridge while everyone was moving to disc which not only hindered certain shyt that would count for cinematic elements of a game...but it even COSTED more..which is why they tried to bring out a disc drive for N64 that u could attach to the system..cause they knew they fukked up...what saved N64 was that their exclusive games were some of the best games of all time...if not for that..it would've been a wrap even back then...Gamecube had some great and slept on titles but they've been slowly fukkin up since then until they completely just screwed over their core audience wit the Wii...now this Wii U basically fukked everyone...lol..

They fukked up and playstation took over. Had they tried to directly compete with Sony they would have gone the way of the dreamcast. In my opinion they made a smart pivot and kept themselves relevant. If anything gamers abandoned them, so they adapted.

:what: there's a plethora of reasons Dreamcast failed...it was a loved system and still failed but that was more Sega's fault than anything...Sega made TOO MANY stupid decisions in the 90s that led up to the Dreamcast...all them add ons n extra useless shyt they put out...then they put out the Saturn and what fukked that up is they basically tacked the 3d aspect of the system on at the last minute and that made it EXTREMELY HARD to develop for...that's why there's no Saturn emulators even till this day...they fukked their own money up so by the time a great system dropped in the Dreamcast it was basically a wrap for them...then add to the fact it was so easy to play burned games and not buy them it basically ran them outta business...PS2 dropped and nail in the coffin..they couldnt compete..Nintendo would've been fine hadn't they gimped their fanbase time after time with the lack of GAMES...on top of that bullshyt they did with N64...they would've survived perfectly fine...their core fanbase finally lost patience with them at this point...period..I've had every single one of these systems from the NES up...it is what it is...

It's sounds like you are equating their core audience to yourself. You fell out of love with Nintendo, but their ongoing success proves they made some good strategical moves. And they still have a lot of fans.

Its not as black and white as you portraying it Gilligan. I'd say there is a huge portion of gamers who would fit into the Casual Enthusiast category. I'd know, I'm a fukking console myself :manny:
nobody said the people of the higher tiers don't also play lower tier games. i know as an enthusiast most of the games i play the general public wouldn't even try and shyt like Farmville i'd never touch but people that don't like video games play. i'm not a casual gamer but i'll play Call of Duty semi-annually and always get GTA though.

in general the enthusiast know who they are. most of them buy a console day one if they want it and go through that horrible period after launch when it has no games. enthusiast may buy a game like Full Auto just because there's nothing else on the release list for a while.

:what: ongoing success?..do u see whats happening with the Wii U?...I basically broke down everything leading up until this point...the casual audience should be an add on...not the main objective...I'm done...

the 3DS experienced a similar low point early in its life. its doing fine now. the Wii U could be a total failure but that's still too early to call.

Nintendo has always been successful with their handhelds...this Wii U situation is different tho...unless they create a bunch if new exclusive IP's their done...and believe me...I want them too...I hope they bring a lot of quality..stop makin that fukk shyt and provide a good balance to these next gen systems...cause as far as multiplats go its not lookin good for them at all...they need to get the indie gaming poppin as well...that could save them...

past success doesn't guarantee future success the PS2 to PS3 transition is proof of that. the 3DS came out and the gaming lineup was abysmal and it wasn't selling. Nintendo dropped the price and it became an impulse buy for people. the games eventually came for it.

in all honesty if tomorrow the price of the Wii U fell $100 i'm willing to bet sales would drastically change. the console is flat out too expensive especially for the lack of games it has which is exactly like the 3DS was. the main difference between the 3DS and Wii U is that the 3DS only has the Vita as competition outside of mobile devices and the Wii U will have more viable opponents in about 5 months.

The success of the PS3 was Sony's own doing...and it STILL ended up catching up by the end of the gen...like I said...the Wii U is supposed to be a next gen console but it has current gen specs for the most part...the Wii U is what the Wii should've been aside from that wack ass tablet..next gen is gonna be VERY different in approach when it comes to systems and the line between PC and console is becoming EXTREMELY blurred and the Wii U is just not there...whatever u say is not gonna negate the fact that in order for the Wii U to survive next gen...they BETTER come out with more exclusive and original IP's and at a decent pace and also try to get a big piece of the indie market...basically..they need quality games...period...

That's your opinion, and the opinion of a lot of "hardcore gamers" but reality is "hardcore gamers" is a very small market. The ps3 catered exclusively to hardcore gaming and Sony lost money. It's not a viable business plan anymore. Budgets are too high and gamers don't want to spend more money. If someone dropped a hardcore console for $800 with $80 games. It could be the most gaming centric console ever and it would still flop. The key is finding the sweet spot in the market. Each company is searching for that sweet spot, while gamers just complain and bash all ideas that aren't extra polygons/more power.

I'm not talkin bout hardcore gamers...I'm talking bout CORE FANBASE...or at least people who actually like to play fukkin videogames....lol...I said cater to the CORE FANBASE first and foremost...THOSE people are gonna be the paying customers in the grand scheme of things in the long run....no one said dont fukk wit the casual market at all..I'm saying don't make it the MAIN FOCUS...and Sony lost money cause they tried to put too much in one pot at once..and they complicated things for themselves by making the system kinda hard to develop for..lack of games in the beginning as well...in the meantime tho...they ended up LEARNING from their mistakes and the system is a success...I don't know why u keep actin like its a flop for some shyt...it's right on par with Xbox 360 as far as sales go.....the PS4 is very gaming centric from what I see so far and it adds the other stuff as a bonus...the other stuff isn't the main focus...and shouldn't be..it should add on to the experience..not overpower it...
