Both side A and Dide B of The Cactus album had heat. SMH @ Russel Simmons saying he likes 3 hard dikks.
:scust:
The signature songs were "Stepping To The A.M." "Brooklyn Queens" and The Gas Face." Being a kid who traveled every summer down south I remember my older cousins fukking with that "Stepping To The AM". The gas face was actually a thing. Thats how I know they were getting love in the streets because all the kids were doing that shyt for a minute. One of the standouts of the album was the song "Flipping Off The Wall Like Lucielle Ball". When I would cut school in the 6th grade we'd go to whoevers house to play Nintendo and this song was on repeat because it kept us laughing. Late 80's was the transition where rappers were cursing more on records and this was the "Parental Advisory" song of the album.

Search was the first rapper I know to really represent Far Rockaway. He did this by name dropping known areas. U can make a Far Rock natives' head turn by mentioning names like "Edgemere" and "Redfern."

2nd album stand out song was Pop Goes The Weasel. I remember the OG of my building fukking with this song. U never heard anyone putting 3rd Bass in a wack category. I even remember Em getting some award and acknowledging 3rd Bass. The Portrait Of The Artist As a Hood remix was the precurser to CNNs "Thug Paradise." Must be a Queens thing. The Moe Green scene in this video always made my grandmother go :damn:

And lets not forget 3rd Bass' other contribution to Hip Hop. They opened up the doors for Nas and MF Doom. :ehh:

:beli: Used to hate serch when he started dancing tho

:gucci:

3rd Bass came out before vanilla Ice how was Pete Nice the answer to Vanilla Ice?

:what:

Serch was dancing on their first video Stepping To the Am. It’s not like he was hardcore then started dancing later.

You have no idea what the fk you are talking about. 3rd bass came out BEFORE Vanilla Ice so how the hell is Pete Nice THE ANSWER to Vanilla Ice? To be the answer to something you gotta be the response. You don’t know how that works?

Wait...what?

:comeon:

Serch literally only known as a dancer? You don’t see him fking rapping in the videos? Do you know what literally means?

But back to the topic. Yea 3rd bass did get love in the hood back in the days. Even all the dancing serch did was dope back then because nikkaz was dancing like a muthafkka too. This was around the time MC Hammer came out with Lets Get It Started and all the Dope Boys in the hood was fking with that MC Hammer album back then. At least on the West Coast they did. Stepping To The Am, Brooklyn Queens, Gas Face & Pop Goes The Weasel got major play in the hood.

You must not be from that era AT ALL. I can tell you probably wasn’t born around that era to be talking like that. Besides NWA Dopeman or Kurtis Blow Whitelines there was no “DopeBoy music” you fuking idiot. Dope Boys was listening to MC HAMMER , Beastie Boys, LL Cool J, EPMD, Rakim etc mid to the late 80s. Then started listening to NWA, Tribe Called Quest, 3rd Bass, X Clan etc in the early 90s. Fools was selling dope wile listening to Self Destruction and All In The Same Gang!

You mention Self Destruction as if BDP first album wasn't on some high key gangster shyt. :wtf: There was plenty of gangster music in the mid to late 80's. "9mm Goes Bang" influenced Spice 1, one of the most prolific gangster rappers of all time, to try to recreate that song his entire career. And if we're honest, NWA was blatantly influenced by BDP from their whole all black everything look to their unremorseful vulgar approach to Rap music. And Ice T was on that gangster shyt too. And as far as underground shyt goes, undergrond West Coast shyt was always more raw and street oriented in the late 80's. :birdman:I know being from the Bay. Hugh EMC and 415 from the Bay were making hard street music for the d boys back in that 89' era. Snoop admittedly was heavily influenced by 415 and Richie Rich and even rapped on some of the same beats (i.e. "G'z and Hustlaz" is that same beat as "Snitches and bytches"). Maybe d boys on the East Coast were listening to "Bonita Applebum" and a slanging dope, but West Coast rap already had trap music before they called it that by the late 80's.

3rd Bass first songs being so hard, them being on Def Jam and not having they faces on the record cover for the early singles all did a lot for them

Petes verse on this joint had nikkas like "yoooo who was THAT?!!?" This song and "Steppin' to the AM" made me a fan
