Is truly an enigma. Those neighborhoods around Coliseum and Crenshaw look so damn nice. But you can tell that they aren’t the nicest parts of Los Angeles. Like there’s certain “tells”, despite the beautiful landscaping, palm trees, and beautiful bungalow, American craftsmen, Spanish and Tudor style homes. It’s truly an enigma. :jbhmm:

I’m obsessed with the history and current state of this area. Coliseum, Crenshaw, Jefferson, West Adams, Leimert Park, Hyde Park, Arlington, etc.

A lot of old money in those areas
Yep. A lot of wealthier old money black ppl. They own a lot of businesses on the westside. :wow:

I can tell.

They’re not moving back South anytime soon. :wow:

A lot of them are lowkey with it too. Someone should write* a book on the westside.

I’d buy it.

It's crazy because growing up in cali in the 80s and 90s I thought my neighborhood and those surrounding areas were the hood just sprinkled with middle upper old black money. With all the white people moving to cali all of those places will mostly be cac areas soon :francis:

Damn. Where will the history go? I guess black millenials can’t afford to keep those homes in the family. :francis:

Kinda reminds me of Liberty City in Miami. A wealthier version. In Liberty city the roughest areas are around the Pork N Beans projects. But the further south you go away from the projects and closer to allapattah, the nicer the homes get and the neighborhoods don’t look too bad in the Southeastern portion of Liberty City. A lot of older homeowners.

The east side (Historic South Central) is the real South Central

Vermont Vista and Vermont Knolls is the original west side :wow:

Crenshaw was something like a city until the o’fays started moving that redline :wow:
its crazy because everytime I would go to the eastside it would feel like a different world.

I see what the whites did. Anything South of Downtown that became predominantly black, got the “South Central” tag. Even areas that were historically “South West Los Angeles” like Inglewood, Crenshaw, West Adams’s, Hyde Park, etc. Yep. Historic(and geographically specific) South Central was the area immediately South of Downtown on Central Ave. the Jazz district. That’s why til this day, the eastside is more blue collar than the west. :wow:

That’s crazy to me. Considering all the violence in the 90s. Was the westside ever as violent as the east? Did the small pockets of poverty on the westside make just as much noise as the east? Was there an “understanding” that the wealthier black areas of the westside would remain free of the riff raft, while the pockets of adjacent rougher neighborhoods on the westside bore the brunt of all the socio economic problems and violence?

East side is definitely more ancient feeling
Feels like the east side was built like an Eastcoast city, with a historic core, and high population density and rail car areas. While the westside of south central was designed exclusively after the automobile and was designed specifically to “cruise” and drive from business to business. I guess that’s why all the best car show caravan areas were on the westside(like Crenshaw Blvd on Sundays) while the eastside didn’t have those kinda car shows.
