So yeah, I've had the pleasure of owning this phone for the past few days and I must admit I REALLY enjoy this phone. I previously used a Nokia Lumia 920 as my daily driver, as well as a Galaxy Note 2. Now granted those phones are solid devices, but they're literally basura when compared to the magnificent piece of tech that is the Nokia Lumia 1020.
I'll make this review real succinct. Simply a breakdown of the pros and cons:

Pros:
- AMAZING SCREEN - the Amoled 1280 x 768 screen is fukking phenomenal. With a pixel density of 334ppi, its impossible to see any pixilation. Furthermore, with a 60hz refresh rate, games and movies look and play phenomenal
- Windows Phone 8 - While some uninformed trolls may consider this a detriment, I firmly believe that the windows phone OS is far and away superior to the other mobile phone offerings on the market, especially if you consider your phone to be a dependable device enabling to maximize productivity. With over 160,000 apps and all essential services currently covered by quality 3rd party apps (i.e. Instagram, Google Talk, and Google Voice, etc) its truly capable of satisfying all your app cravings. Again, app whores need not apply as you'll undoubtedly be disappointed that the latest "hot homo app of the moment" is currently not on your device. But most people that use their device for the original purpose of a mobile phone like talk, text, email, web browsing, will find a very solid package here. Furthermore, the new GRD2 update that constantly displays the time, as well as the FM radio are great additions.
- Slim, svelte profile - coming from a 920, this thing is amazingly slim and beautiful. I own the yellow variant and I definitely prefer the matte finish as opposed to the shiny polish of my previous 920 and Note 2. The phone just oozes premium quality, something I would never associate with Samdung offerings. Iphone 5 users may be disappointed in the phone being bigger, but it also has a larger screen and battery than the fruit phone, so you have to give Nokia some credit for bending the laws of physics here as much as they have to create this masterpiece.
- 41 MP Camera - Yes the hype is real. The camera must be seen to be believed. I can capture impressive bokeh with this device, far better than what I could achieve on my old point and shoots. Night time shots are captured beautifully with the amazing OIS and xenon flash. I literally can take phenomenal photos, damn near professional quality. I still prefer my Sony Nex-6 for serious shooting, but as a pocket camera that is always on you, its likely going to be my MOST used camera going forward. The video camera on this thing is amazing as well, with the capability to record full HD 1080p videos with active zoom and autofocus. You could literally record a great looking movie or music video with this device, no joke. Furthermore, the Nokia pro shot software is even more impressive, allowing for an amazing degree of post processing once you take your photos. They're is even cool software to help you edit videos as well, truly giving you an amazing photo and video editing software at the palm of your hands. Some may argue that there are equally impressive photo editing apps on competing OS's, but do those pour souls have access to the 41 MP Pureview beauty that it is the Nokia Lumia 1020?
- Quicker, snappier than alternatives - I attribute this to both the Windows Phone 8 GDR2 update and the 2 gigs of RAM. While 2 gigs is essential for an Android phone to run respectably, Windows Phone has a reputation to require minimal RAM requirements due to efficient coding. This is evidenced by the cheap, functional, and extremely popular Nokia Lumia 520. However with 2 gigs, this beast literally flies. Truly a smooth and elegant experience all the way around.
Now I've gushed about the phone enough, there are a few cons:
- Size - more a problem for iphone heads. The Iphone 5 is admittedly a beautiful device, and the 1020 is definitely larger and more imposing. However, despite the size difference Im sure people would still consider it given its other advantages. Those coming from the gargantuan Note 2, or HTC one will definitely appreciate the svelte frame of the 1020.
- Price - I paid $699 for mine brand new at the M$ Store. I also received a free camera grip (has an extra 1300 maH battery as well) as well as a $50 gift card. Those looking to sign a contract will pay $299 with 2 year commitment. This is admittedly expensive, but given all the technological marvels in this device I can't say that I blame them. Especially given the fact that you have a powerful smartphone and a high quality camera combined in one!
- Windows Phone 8 - while not a con for me as stated above, many simpletons will out right dismiss the phone because it doesn't use there favorite OS. To those ignorami I say that's unfortunate. I do feel that despite the initial wave of haterade from the usual suspects in the tech media, the public will truly appreciate the beauty of this phone once word of mouth spreads
