The Wiz messed up but at least they have actual NBA starters at the 3 spot, the Pacers have to be absolutely sick to their stomachs looking at George Hill & his contract, knowing Kawhi was theirs and they gave him away for a backup.

Well, looking at it, you can't really blame them. They had Granger who was still injury free and a 20+ scorer and a young Paul George at the 3. They lacked any sort of play at the 1 (and 2) other than Darren Collison
And Hill was a rising player with the Spurs.
pretty much. lets chill with these threads brehsI agree that he's more like an SG but maybe they hoped he could play the point or IDK. Looking at it, the Spurs clearly came out as winners now but Indiana already had an all star type player and a rising star at the 3 position and Leonard wasn't expected to be that great iirc, nor can he really play the NBA 4 so it looked a bit justified at the time.
Can't count out Pop and the Spurs work for nurturing talent tho.
But anyone that watched Hill knew he wasn't a PG, dude has always been an undersized SG.
And realistically, if the Spurs call me up willing to trade a proven NBA player for someone that early in the draft I'm gonna be like![]()

..Wait don't call him back
...let's work something out
You are right about "If Kawhi came to Washington" but what you are miscalculating is Jan VeselyTo be honest Kawhi didn't really wow anyone at San Diego state. His jumpshot was broke and he looked to be a tweaner. If he was drafted by the Wiz chances are he wouldn't be the player he is right now. The Spurs just have a way of getting the best out of everyone they bring in. And ya drafting Vesley was terrible as well.

He CLEARLY is very talented. Great defender, can get up and down the floor well
Plays passing lanes. But he too had to play for THE WIZARDS. A franchise who notoriously does not develop talent
Vesely was a good idea, but the Wiz were not in a position to develop him.. or seraphin..or blatch... or McGee/etc
That's why its been so important to have veteran big men on this team, and it still is
We now have a foundation, and Randy Wittman actually has a system him uses.
If the Wizards don't make the Eastern Conference Finals next year
Gary Williams for a year or two, then Sam Cassell if he still around
Unless a clearly better option is available and willing to come
