Because comic book writers went out of their way to make that his defining characteristic even though it was actually just a miscommunication between the writer of the story and the artist.

Nobody was asking for a Ant Man solo movie but they rushed getting that shyt made. Nobody was asking for a Guardians of the Galaxy movie either but they rushed that shyt.
Once a cinematic universe was established a couple easter eggs were dropped lots of people started asking about a Black Panther film. Marvel execs get asked about it all the fukking time but it's clearly they don't give a shyt.
