that girl they kicked out after their debut a difference maker?

Huge one actually. Qureshi was an actual guitarist, unlike Romy Madley Croft. If you notice, there's not nearly as much guitar on this record as there was on the self-titled. It really changed the way that they composed songs.

I think that you guys are kind of going a bit nuts with the "terrible" and "weak" claims though. I don't feel that it's anywhere near that (How good it is, I haven't decided on that yet).

I don't think so. It seems like it's more a case of them being a one trick pony because I heard all of these songs before on their debut

edit - but even more than that, I heard all of these songs on their debut and they were better. I've given this album a solid 3 listens and then gone back to digesting the Blur boxset. The XX is just another band that's turned into a circlejerk among bloggers and journalists who are deathly afraid of going against convention and potentially losing out on some credibility by rightly panning this non-starter of an album.

You're right, it's not actually bad in the sense that the Slaughterhouse album is bad. But that makes it worse, because I like this band and my expectations were higher, so I didn't listen to any of the leaks and ended up more than disappointed.
