i dont know. console manufacturers sure, but im pretty sure sega and namco have characters that rival mario

SquareEnix and BandaiNamco for sure have characters that could rival Mario. It's just the format is never as clean or crisp as it is for SMB.

Sega needs to find a way to make Sonic's speed not so restrictive in terms of gameplay.

Bandai needs to release Gundam:Troy or give me a legit sequel to Gundam Side Story.

Somehow Square still hasn't given me a Zelda-esque Final Fantasy and that's blowing my mind.

Nintendo is the JayZ of consoles. It competes with itself.

Pokemon ZA was some straight reggie and didn't even differentiate itself from the OG switch version except it ran smoother. But they sell millions of copies and make a ton of profit so the formula works. But I'll hold out final judgement until they completely ditch the Switch 1 and focus primarily on the 2

Console warriors want the console war to persist, but reality is, each of the “big 3”(and PC) have found a comfortable lane of their own, in which they don’t necessarily have to compete with each other.

Nintendos market is “nintendo games” a “competitor” is not possible at this point.
