Artists aren’t living like they’re making that kinda money though. 60 to 80 is people salary status. We can’t live how these rappers be living lol

A lot of these rappers are actually in the negative and getting bankrolled by the label until they fall off :manny:

How can someone with no real hits, no high selling albums, and no big tour afford a lambo and 3 Bentley’s?

Artists need to form a music guild. I keep using the NFL as an example. Why do we think the NFL is still so profitable and growing?

What it's going take to is the black man's nemesis: organization and structure.

Cacs conquered this world with organization and structure within their ranks. nikkas hate the thought of having to listen to another man.

Particularly in hip hop we needed to form some type of council with oversight. But nikkas go to yelling "I don't want anyone telling me shyt".

If it was organized as it should be, we'd simply inform all rappers to stop uploading entire albums on streaming platforms. Let consumers know MUSIC NOT FREE.

If artists can pull their music from streaming en masse they can start making money again. They actually can make even more money in 2024 because it doesn't take much to distribute your own music now.

Great point especially the bolded.

The booth is filled with Wutang threads about them nikkas always being upset with RZA cuz he had them do some shyt that would benefit them.

The artists need to go on strike and push for all the streamers to pay out based on listening percentages instead of per-stream. If I pay $10.99 per month and only listen to Wale for the month and stream his songs 100 times, Wale should get the full $10.99 instead of $1 (Apple Music pays $0.01 per stream).

I'm saying...artists need start a #musicnotfree movement.

It costs money to put out a quality product!

Or perhaps the streaming platforms should be charged a lump sum to stream an artists music. Like $100k for some artists, while even a a milli for some others.

Yeah that’s true there should be a minimum floor for artists who receive a large number of streams.

Does anyone know how much sound engineers who work with established artists (eg Big Sean, Cardi, etc) make?

Fans fukked music because nobody wants to pay for music anymore. Unless you’re Taylor Swift or somebody else at the top you can’t make money in music That means no drummers no guitars no bass players just engineers slapping together beats from 30 years ago on a soundboard. And all the people who laughed about pirating movies and music and CDs because well they can find money elsewhere. Well this is what you get.

Had a friend in college who got real good playing guitar even had himself a little band. performed live for a bit but after a while this is when everyone started pirating music. can’t make music anymore with the streaming shyt. He ended up working at a pet shop and he went from novice to studio musician level in about three or four years.
Absolutely CRAZY to blame fans for concert tickets costing half as much as rent and streaming services stepping in to lock in customers and raise the price every year while giving artists barely any cut.

FANS paid for the music, bought the merchandise and booked time off and bought plane tickets to go to the concerts. Fans sustained the music business from the beginning. Silicon valley and ticket sellers hit the 🤝 and agreed to gouge concert ticket prices, get people hooked on streaming with algorithms and then raise the price so that only the industry plants(like Billie eilish or ice spice) get shine.

It's greed and a lack of government regulation that got us to this point. People who only understand money, not art or human happiness are in charge and they're ruining all forms of entertainment. Whether it's cookie cutter, shytty movies copying other more successful movies, or video games ballooning in price while selling you content that used to be included in the game back to you or TV shows that have scripts that may as well have been written by A.I. because they don't want to pay good wages to their writers. These people are obsessed with disposability and cutting as much costs as possible while retaining the majority of the profits.

To blame the people who are willing to pay for the streaming services so they can access the music or pay apple to download individual tracks or whatever is EXACTLY what these executives want people to do while they collect more money than they ever have before.
