The gold standard was abandoned because the US was running low on their gold reserve so they decided to tie the dollar to the value of oil thus making the USD remaining the world currency

It looks like the quick move to change over to electric is another domino put in place by world government "climate change" pushers to knock the U.S. economy down and make it just another piece of the Euro centered Beast.
