"As of January 20, 2021, there have been 1,994 members of the United States Senate,[10] of which 11 have been African American.[1]"

4 out of the 11 Black Senators were not elected.

Remember this next time someone tells you we had Black Representation in politics. Only 0.6% of Senators in history were Black.

Yeah. Its very very hard to win state wide. Which is why the ceiling for black politicians tend to be US House of Representatives since its much easier to win at the district level.
I'm surprised there aren't more Black senators in the high Black population states. Only Georgia with Warnock and South Carolina with Tim Scott have recently elected a Black Senator from a high Black population state.

Tim Scott was appointed to that Senate seat by Nikki Haley when she was Governor. Tim was a US House member when he got appointed to fill that seat. He did win re-election obviously but I wonder if he would have ever won if he had to run for Senate without ever being appointed. Because I'd assume white people just wouldn't vote for him.

Even with these high black populations, these white redneck small areas produce a lot of white Republican votes and that's why they win. Combined with black turnout not being as high as it could be.

Above the fray.
@2legit

Thread doesn't add up.

You're ignoring the Blacks who have been elected in district, city, count, and state legislature offices. There have been plenty, especially in the states with high Black populations

You're ignoring the role of fundraising, political lobbies, and donors in running for and winning a U.S. Senator seat.

It doesn't add up? It does. There have been 11 Black Senators in history. That's a fact. The US Senate is the most important political position behind the Presidency and the Supreme Court. The Senate makes a lot of policy decisions that impact the lives of all Americans including Blacks.
