why is that list so short?

Preemo
Pete Rock
Madlib
Havoc....
J. Dilla
RZA
Mannie Fresh
Large Professor

I cant think of anyone else... Just 8, and this is of all time too not just current.
What's up with that?

Is it just math? Because it's often a one to many relationships, as one producer makes beats for many rappers so there's always more rappers than producers?

Marley Marl?
You know it striked me right clicking on create thread, or whatever the button is.
For sure man, he started the James Brown sampling.
maybe eric sermon too?
Dr Dre?
Johnny J
There's a few that spring to mind to me personally as greats.
I would never put Dre there, not because his beats weren't great but because I don't believe he made the large majority of them, even in the beginning.
He's too much of a question mark.

If I hold rappers to these standards and bash Kanye and Drake for using ghostwriters I gotta do the same to producers.

on another note to the old heads does anyone know why back in the days when rappers were rapping it sounded like they were rapping in a room with strong echo acoustics, like a bathroom or something.
Like the mic was different and mouth closer to the mic, anyone know what I'm talking about?

I KNEW IT!!!
I knew people would dilute the thread of the greats with posts of the good but not great.
I knew ppl would mention NO ID and Swiss Beats....

Thread is "GREATS" not "Great-ish" or "GOOD"
