From what I remember the deathrow east thing was started many years after pac's death. I think it was during the crooked I era but I could be wrong.
No it was many years in the making.

you’re mixing two different eras up

Lakey The Kid was supposed to be on the reinvention of Death Row East in 2004 when he teamed up with Suge

Had nothing to do with the Death Row East Nas is talking about, which was Big D, Eric B and NC Hammer’s brother as CEOs

Lakey The Kid was in jail in 1996

This absolutely makes no sense whatsoever, unless Nas just doesn’t give a fukk about the timeline.

The emphasis of the song is during the “height of the beef.” He’s painting a picture of how it was in ‘96. Lakey was locked up during this time. He was released in ‘99. Within the context of the song, and the events that took place in real life, it wouldn’t make sense for him to be referring to Lakey.

Suge didn’t try to start Deathrow East with Lakey until 2006, which was 10 years later. Nas & Lakey fell out prior to the creation of Deathrow East, which Lakey explains in the link below.

Lake Me Against The World - XXL

About a year ago, you had a falling out with Nas. How did that happen?
That was behind us establishing [the record label] Ill Will, and then that not happening. People were depending on me, I was waiting on him, and the people that was waiting on me got caught up in the situation. Federal cases got built up and they went to jail, and one of my friends was killed before they came in and locked the other seven of my homeboys up. So, enough was enough. That was something that can’t be repaired. I can’t just get on and blow and change that situation. Nothing was going to change that. I was done with waiting and dealing with that.

If you want to just make an assumption on who you believe he was talking about, it would definitely have to be Eric B and his people.

@seemorecizzy is right

Deathrow was basically dead, and operating as Tha Row Records, under Reggie Wright. However, I understand if you view them as the same.

Ironic for Lake because in 1996 he was locked up and I remember an old interview where Lake said that he got the call that Suge & Death Row wanted to meet/confront Nas/in town (something to that effect) and he said he got the goons to go with Nas to the Bryant Park meet

Bloods in NY started in the penitentiaries and spread throughout the streets in the mid to late 90s. Had nothing to do with Deathrow. Not really sure what Nas was saying in that verse.

This stuff tends to go in phases as well. There was a lot of kids who came along for the ride being influenced by Weezy, Game & Dipset…Whom’s to say Death Row wasn’t rubbing off on people as well? Obviously tho it derived from prison

Eric B was with Death Row at the Pac meet in NY allegedly and a part of Death Row East... Eric B was moving like Suge before Suge allegedly in the industry. Not really Ra's producer just taking credit from an uncredited Large Pro and even Rakim himself. Nas used to be at Rakim sessions as Erics lil man. Eric rolled with Paid in Full Posse... Gooned Up taking Publishing before the row.

Eric b put the $$ up. So his business acumen was better. he got his money in the streets. No eric B didn't produced but eric B produced shows, paid rakim upfront guap, & kept rakim in the studio being prolific. Eric b made sure he got a mil & Rakim got a Mil EACH. he was a business man but got his money in the streets yes he was aG but a business man first.

lets not act like eric B an Rakim was on some extornist shyt also remember extra P was a nobody before he got put on. He was eric b lil man who could produce. Then he gotot showcase his genius and was put on. Even now though there is no Rakim song produced by extra P in exsitence really. He was the go get me something from the cornerstore as nikka.

Curtis Sc00n did mention NY dudes essentially kissing Suge’s ring when he went to start DR east on Twitter years ago.

Broke dudes will kiss anyone with money's ring if they think they have a chance to get on.
