I'm a little late but this one is real clear in how this guy thinks. Illustrative of exactly how these guys and racist white folks think. Micheal's last comment lays it all out.
1) He claims that racism is something that USED to exist. It doesn't affect us anymore and is just something some black people made up. He wants Kimberly to go look at how bad it used to be. As Malcolm X would say "if you pull a six inch knife out of my back three inches why should I thank you". Because things are better, they are perfect.
2) THANK GOD the white folks got tired of treating us like shyt and allowed us to integrate. Whereas I view not having to be forcefully segregated as how things SHOULD be, he views it as a blessing bestowed upon us from White Jesus. And we should thank them for it.
3) Any complaint of racial discrimination is 'gibberish'. Or misspelled with a 'j' if that's your thing. This lays the onus of racism on black people. Michael sees it as OUR responsibility to ignore things we view as discriminatory to make racism go away. Any acknowledgement of discriminatory behavior or policy is just rabble-rousing. He is immediately dismissive of any claim, shuts it down before any investigation or critical thought.
I see this thought pattern constantly from folks in plenty of arguments and this isn't just limited to racial discrimination. 1)It's not as bad as it used to be so shut up 2)You are better off even if you don't think you are 3)That stuff doesn't exist anymore and you're just complaining.

When I think about being black and how much I love my people, I think back to the freedom rider....I feel what was going on in his head and heart, as he traveled on that rickety bus knowing he was going to get beat unmercifully, bit by ravenous dogs, sprayed by hoses, and possibly even killed in a quest to be treated as a equal human under the law. If he or she asked herself why they were doing it, they undoubtably said to themselves that they were doing it for us. Me and You.
In that inhumanity lies the true beauty of spirit, valor, honor, bravery, and what it means to be human...if some black people cant feel that and be proud of their history, community, culture, and skin then its the worst "L" they can take.
