Perhaps he does not mean it truly, but I'm sure it would have him feeling a certain type of way. If I had a son and he felt he had to align himself with one of the D9 frats, I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't be strongly curious about why he'd choose to align himself, for a lifetime, with Nupes or Ques as they are present-day.
Though none of them are perfect and have parts of their public image that have deviated strongly from that of their founding members and those classic members from the 1900s, for the most part, I think Alphas still seem to hold a bit of that polished kind of sensibility...I've always assumed it's because they were the first D9 org, they originated at Cornell and they want to preserve their image...I can't say when I have ever met an obviously dumb Alpha.
Iotas also have a freedom with being the last of the D9 and the only to be founded in response to the Civil Rights Era, not Jim Crow, so they don't have to try to fit an image anyway. It's not a diss that Sigmas don't seem to give a fukk about image either, so the ones I saw in college mostly came off as down-to-earth.
Some modern Nupes and Ques though...
