These labels aren’t negotiating with artists. You turn down the offer they’ll move to the next artist.
Unless you’ve somehow made a huge name for yourself outside the label system and sparked a bidding war which is exceedingly rare your first deal is gonna be a “slave” deal.

Label can write off stuff that comes out of your budget as overhead and operating costs. They cannot write off gifts so everything comes out of your budget,they get the tax breaks and you get a luxury item you probably didn't need.

When your an artist your focus is on your art. Being a savvy business person is in opposition to that. If you're broke and people are offering you stuff and more money than you have at that point in your life you are going to take the slave deal for now and hope you figure out the rest later.
