It's impossible to know how many servers you'll need or to anticipate the problems that could arise.
I wonder if "the cloud" will alleviate these types of problems next gen. With everything automatically scaleable, I would imagine that devs wouldn't have these types of problems.

thats not the point bruh, if online was going to be broken anyway you might as well have released it back when the game shipped. at least by now they would've figured out how to get it running
