They had mastered time travel.....why didn't trunks just go back in time and slice Dr. Gero in half?

like...before he even created the androids...he had FOREVER to go back and kill dr. gero...kill him like 10 years before that....a month before he started the androids...he knew down to the SECOND when they went live...why wouldn't he destroy them? And he had to have known about Cell right? it was imperative Dr. Gero never exist...

while he was traveling why didn't he go to the egg that buu was in and just dice that mug up too before it matured??

WTF WAS WRONG WITH TRUNKS

It wasn't really time travel.

Future Trunks went to a parallel universe

why do you think nothing changed when he went back to his time to his parallel universe? Cell was still around and so were the androids

This was explained -

1. He didn't know where Dr. Gero's lab was.

2. In DBZ, travelling back in time creates a separate timeline and doesn't affect your timeline. So slicing Dr. Gero in half still wouldn't fix Trunks future.

You sure about that? I thought it was time travel but by time travel it demonstrate one of the theory of time traveling, that it create a parallel universe instead of changing the future the person came from, when traveling in the past.

Wiki for my laziness:

Temporal paradox -is atheoretical, paradoxical situation that occurs with time travel into the past. These include: the bootstrap paradox, predestination paradox, and grandfather paradox.

Novikov self-consistency principle

The Novikov self-consistency principle says that anything a time traveler does in the past must have been part of history all along, so although the time traveler can have a causal influence on events in the past, it is impossible for anything the time traveler does to "change" history. So, for example, any attempt by the time traveler to kill one of his ancestors before they became a parent would be guaranteed to fail for some reason or another (perhaps the gun would jam, or perhaps the traveler would just have a change of heart), so the grandfather paradox would be avoided. This theory, however, is capable of causing a bootstrap paradox.

Multiple universes hypothesis

This theory states that there are infinite number of universes, collectively known as the "multiverse". If a person is about to travel back in time, he will create his own parallel universe upon arrival in the past. So if he kills "his" grandfather, a paradox would not occur because the grandfather that he has killed is not his own grandfather from the universe from which he came, but that of the version of himself in the universe he is now in.

This, Trunks world was fukked no matter what he just stayed around to help the Z Warriors so he can get to know his daddy and so he can get stronger to defeat the Androids in his timeline.

then what was the purpose in the first place? He traveled in the past to give goku the cure and give that timeline the chance to succeed...to defeat the androids, and save that time.

but if that was the case...if his GOAL WAS TO STOP THE ANDROIDS WHICH DESTROYED HIS TIMELINE [regardless if he personally reaped the benefits] why wouldn't he just go back further and destroy dr. gero

futhermore, they (the zfighters) MADE IT to dr geros lab as the androids were being released

so clearlyknowledge of where the lab was, was available.

it makes no sense

if your goal is to stop the androids...destroy Dr. Gero, PERIOD.

Didn't cell (the one that turned into perfect cell) come from another parallel universe? in his universe he killed Trunks....so wouldn't that mean theres already multiple parallel universes?

all stories that involve someone going back in time are plagued by that same problem. most recent example would be x men dofp. the outright stupidity of the premise took me completely out of the movie.

and trunks got trolled by akira toryiama cause goin back in time didn't even fix shyt.:heh:

Yeah he came to give Goku the cure and went back, noticed that nothing changed in his timeline and went back. When he saw Android 19's severed head he knew that not only that he can't change his timeline but also he altered their timeline with extra androids being present. Lets not talk about how he knew nothing about Cell...

the core, and very simple question is this:

Trunks went back in time [or universe, whatever] to stop the androids from destroying everything, and to cure goku to give them a chance to fight the androids.

THIS IS 100% agreed. It doesn't not MATTER if it worked or not or if it affected HIS timeline.

IF that is the case...

...why wouldn't you just go further back in time before goku got the virus..hell..go to earth before freiza even arrived, it DOESNT MATTER WHEN...and give goku the cure, tell him when to take it, and kill dr gero in your leisure? WHY WAIT until RIGHT before they get activated?? why TRAIN to FIGHT THEM when you can DESTROY THEIR EXISTANCE?

its the same reason that Arnold was ORIGINALLY tyring to kill SARAH CONNER...

As the abridged series showed they never explain why Future Trunks never asked future Bulma how Doctor Gero looked like or where the Red Ribbon Army labs used to be hidden at since she and Goku had run ins with the organization back during their young days

:heh: so basically the answer is "because the show is poorly written" or "because trunks is a moron"

alright

lol sad thing is goku and vegeta would have gladly came back with trunks to his own timeline if only he had offered.

"so you're sayin in your world you got 2 unbeatable androids who could whoop our ass on the daily?":ohhh:

would be like a getaway for those 2. :heh:
