sup yall, I'm thinking about building an app, anybody in here familiar with it?

I'm a newbie when it comes to app development and I have a question regarding patents.

I came up with an idea for an app and I'm not sure whether it could potentially be proprietary.

My idea is this :

I basically came up with an added feature that Instagram could potentially use.

It will allow Instagram users to add a feature to their picture. Can't say what it is ofcourse.

I'm thinking about selling this idea to Instagram but I dont own the idea at this point (assuming I'm even able to own it)

I dont have the money to pursue a patent and even to find out whether its able to be patented in the first place.

So my question is this :

- Do you know of a way where I can approach Instagram with my idea without them taking it?

- If that's not possible, is there a way to protect my idea when I reach out to companies or individuals that will help me build my idea?

Yeah theres papers that your lawyer draws up that any company you meet with has to sign saying that they won't jack your idea if they don't buy it. The technical name escapes me right now but its like a confidentiality agreement but for businesses

Program the addon yourself or find someone who can.

come up with a catchy name.

Set up an eye pleasing website to download the addon

share the program with reddit, the coli, etc.

If the idea takes off, it takes off.

sooner or later, you'll get a cease and desist from instagram.

a year or two later, they'll debo your idea and implement it themselves.

If you're lucky, you might get an unpaid internship offer from a tech company.

After that, you'll be back on the coli bytching about getting fukked.

You'll get 17 daps on the thread and some funny Jordan cry gifs as consolation.

I think you are talking about a Non-Disclosure Agreement aka NDA

that's a good idea but many major companies and individuals that receive many submissions dont sign that

for fear of getting sued if they are developing something similar already

or whether they have received the same idea from someone else

Yup thats it.If they don't sign then you don't meet.If you don't meet then its a foot race to the finish line for that idea.

Write the idea on a piece of paper then put it in and envelope and send it to yourself. When you receive it, don't open it.

Now you can freely talk about the idea since you have record of the idea from the post office stamp on the unopened envelope. All of the CEOs and corporate execs use this method before going into a business sales pitch.

This is a myth, already disproved.

yeah that's called a poor man's patent...

I'm doing research on it now but I'm not too sure whether that's reliable...

there seems to be allot of controversy about it

Companies do not buy 'ideas' or 'features', they buy companies.

They will then integrate what that company has built into their product as a feature.

Also Instagram is owned by Facebook, so homie ultimately that is who you'd be dealing with.

right, that's exactly why I was thinking

I was thinking that I was going to have to develop this idea myself before I even approached them

but why can I not just walk up to them and introduce my idea

(under the right circumstances, such as a signed NDA or something)
