Depends on if you need the gym and whether or not you can fit it into your schedule without shorting yourself on rest.
If you're fat or lacking strength/stamina or both, you could also work out at home and/or find some time for a good jog. Ever since the pandemic i been seeing hella big people getting they runs in and buying more healthy groceries.
Not everyone needs to force themselves to go to the gym to meet their goals. Better statement is that nobody has an excuse to not put in work. I ain't saying much that's different, but some people within gym culture will make it seem like you ain't doing shyt if you don't get a membership when that's never the case. Some folks see stuff like that and get demotivated or feel more helpless when really they just gotta make more pro-health decisions in their lives
