Yeah, basketball is crazy popular in China. After his NBA run Stephon Marbury went over there and won a couple of rings in the CBA (Chinese NBA) then became a head coach, and owner (!) of a Chinese basketball team and was even appointed commisar. Dude basically became a minor deity, got a statue and a movie. Even made him a naturalized citizen which is supposedly pretty rare.

I imagine this enthusiasm for the sport has died down a bit as nationalism and xenophobia has increased. Now they are out here calling basketball players ******s. Too lazy to find that video ATM but it wasn't too long ago. I imagine basketball appreciation now vs maybe even just 10 years ago has changed.
