I imagine this enthusiasm for the sport has died down a bit as nationalism and xenophobia has increased. Now they are out here calling basketball players ******s. Too lazy to find that video ATM but it wasn't too long ago. I imagine basketball appreciation now vs maybe even just 10 years ago has changed.

Yeah, NBA players have gotten fans removed for racist comments. Lowlife bottom feeder racist element exists among fan bases everywhere.
Difference would be that it gets checked and penalized at sporting events in America. But I agree with you that video of racist animals in China wouldn't disprove that the sport is huge over there.
