Bluefield State College in West Virginia Will Transition to University Status​

Bluefield State is becoming a university. The West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission has approved a resolution calling for the transition to university status. The college now offers an MBA degree and has fulfilled the requirement that at least two thirds of its faculty holds a terminal degree.

After the 1954 Brown v. Board of Education decision outlawed school segregation across the nation, the combination of high educational quality and low tuition costs at Bluefield State began attracting students of European descent, a trend that has continued for decades. Today the school is 10% Black.

The answer for many HBCUs is naw. It's reserve gentrification for colleges instead of neighborhoods . Yet these same individuals wanna be on the Black Student Union at a PWI it's dumb. Why would I go to a pwi if I wanna join the black student union?

Like I've told many a educated fool friends of mine don't cry about the treatment and sneak dissing u getting in class now. You turned down Howard, Texas Southern , Famu , Fisk etc. Stick to the pwi and whatever come with that.

When I do attend a PWI for grad school it would be for major.

I'm speaking on individuals I know I've told them this already. I don't care what it sounds like or tastes like. That's just my pov.

So, Bluefield State and West Virginia State are HBCU’s that are predominantly white.

I know the sister @Black Barbie is from WV. The state, and it’s black history always intrigued me. I know we out there. I’ve driven through there a few times, and seen us lol

A black descendant of Samuel Washington, brother of President George Washington.

If you could believe it, I'm actually a descendant of Samuel Washington, George's brother. My ancestor did not take the Washington name. He took the name Hatfield and in later generations it evolved to Hatter.

From the white side, I only knew of the name Custis. But there are about 5 or 6 separate black families that descend from the Washingtons. None of them took the Washington name that I know. The most famous of these families are the Syphaxes.

Melissa Haizlips family is one of the other black families that descends from the Washingtons.

I remember my auntie used to have a shirt that had all the HBCUs on there. She went to Winston Salem State. I can remember using it as a night shirt from time to time when I was a lil boy
