There's money in it for sure, but like most STEM majors, it's not for everybody. :manny:

That depends on your rate of learning, interest in the material, level of discipline and persistence. You can learn how to code in relatively no time, but being proficient/being able to think like a programmer is another matter. There is more to software development than coding.
This.

You wilding breh, 58 in san fran is NOT 15 everywgere else.

58K is around 120K per year. you're right. That is not $15 an hour anywhere else (30K) 30K everywhere else is enough to basically rent you're own apartment or even buy a house.

In the Bay Area, $15 an hour is more like 150-160K.

A one bedroom apartment is $5 to $7k in the City (SF city). After taxes 120K is about 80K. $5K a month in rent is $60 a year. So at 120K you have around $20k to spend on essentials like groceries, car and anything else that may come up. Remember, everything is more expense in the SF bay, not just housing. You are basically living paycheck to paycheck at $120K. in that regard 120K is the bare minimum to live here.

I think that is more like 20-25K in another city.

It honestly shouldn't be too difficult, you have a solid resume and an easily editable cover letter, right?
Where do you live? Are you applying to private and public tech companies?
Are you using platforms like Monster, Indeed, and even Linkedin?
Did you go to school or are you self-taught?
Outside of Freelancing, I'd spend at least two hours a day applying for jobs, it can be mentally and emotionally draining, but its a necessity.
Most schools have resources for employment, and if you've had any professors you've talked to, you should be able to find useful tips and places to apply.
Apply for everything and anything that pays even moderately well, and that you think you're capable of doing.
It says 5 years experience and you only have 3? Apply anyway, those aren't necessarily solid figures.
No, it's difficult but it's feasible. You can do it but its not easy. Knowing school level shyt is meaningless. You better into full stack if you want to code. Everything going bootstrap. A lot of good sites.

And they aren't making this kind of money doing only a 40hr work week....anyone who thinks otherwise is foolish....you salary exempt.......no ot.....enjoy being on call for 24 hr a day and weekends dealing with issues

The Bay Area has the most relaxing work culture of anywhere on earth. Sometimes I am late to work, and there is still bumper-to-bumper traffic at 10AM. A lot of people int he Bay Area roll into work at 10am or later... Still leave at 6pm though.

And many workers have a set day that they work from home (usually friday). It's so prevalent that traffic is usually expected to be light on Fridays.

At google and facebook, sure they may be 40-60 hour workweeks (wow 60 hours .... plays smallest violin). But I rarely see people at other companies work that many hours.

Let's not forget that at the major companies, they pay for your food with very high quality meals. They pay for your transportation, and they offer free entertainment with the hottest musicians. This is onto of the ridiculously high salaries their employees receive.

To be honest. I don' really understand why so many companies chose this location. The labor cost are insanely high not just for engineers, but for the accountants, the sales team, the costumer service reps, the HR team, maintenance crew and the Financial team. they all get salaries in excess of 100K.
Plus, many companies offer free food, free drink, free entertainment and free transportation.

I understand how having the best Sales and engineering team can make so much of a difference, but what is so essential about HR, accounting or Admin? why don't just have those offices in Sacramento or somewhere in the midwest?

Not only that a lot of these startup jobs are extremely unstable. I read about 90 day grace period for some of them. That's 3 full months before your first paycheck. If the business goes under you don't get your paid. If your company doesn't get VC funding you don't get paid. If it's late or not as expected then that 120k becomes 60k. Places like Uber, AirBnB and Snapchat are multi-billion dollar businesses. They hire only the best of the best. Which means a degree from Stanford or Harvard or at least 5 years experience or you can forget about it. Then expect to work 80 hour weeks. Lots of gotcha's in startup software development at the higher salary range.

Now my dude worked at IBM in Austin says it was pretty chill. 6 figures and everything. He got laid off after a year though.

I'm doing nikka math. The average rent in San Fran for a studio apt is $4k. I live in a place where 1k/month will get you a penthouse suite with high class bytches to do your laundry

Where do you live breh?

I know somebody in san fran living off like 60k and he has 1 roomate

He wouldnt be able to live there if it was like that

I know people who live in san fran off 70k salaries

So no, 58 bucks an hour is NOT like making 25k somewhere else

@dora_da_destroyer

Thoughts?

Sidenote, program is valled makersquare/hackreactor

Program cost 17k

If anyone needs info let me know

As someone who works for a top tier company, even my guys aren't at the level of some of the ones in the valley. Wait, naw, some of them are but for real, the skills you got to have at this level is borderline elite or elite. You need years and practice with love and want to do this.
Those college kids who've been programming since they were 9 :scust:

Tallahassee, FL. lol. 60k will get you your own house on the best side of town in this city

How are they living though breh?

I'm not going to go in on someone making 70k but I feel like that should be enough to do better than cramped quarters and 1 other roommate if he does in fact live like that.
