And they aren't making this kind of money doing only a 40hr work week....anyone who thinks otherwise is foolish....you salary exempt.......no ot.....enjoy being on call for 24 hr a day and weekends dealing with issues
The Bay Area has the most relaxing work culture of anywhere on earth. Sometimes I am late to work, and there is still bumper-to-bumper traffic at 10AM. A lot of people int he Bay Area roll into work at 10am or later... Still leave at 6pm though.
And many workers have a set day that they work from home (usually friday). It's so prevalent that traffic is usually expected to be light on Fridays.
At google and facebook, sure they may be 40-60 hour workweeks (wow 60 hours .... plays smallest violin). But I rarely see people at other companies work that many hours.
Let's not forget that at the major companies, they pay for your food with very high quality meals. They pay for your transportation, and they offer free entertainment with the hottest musicians. This is onto of the ridiculously high salaries their employees receive.
To be honest. I don' really understand why so many companies chose this location. The labor cost are insanely high not just for engineers, but for the accountants, the sales team, the costumer service reps, the HR team, maintenance crew and the Financial team. they all get salaries in excess of 100K.
Plus, many companies offer free food, free drink, free entertainment and free transportation.
I understand how having the best Sales and engineering team can make so much of a difference, but what is so essential about HR, accounting or Admin? why don't just have those offices in Sacramento or somewhere in the midwest?
