I think the issue is this pic was relegated to a smallll portion and was quarantined to a small segment, but things started to change in mid to late aughts I would say first with reality tv and then social media where this type of behavior was given spotlight to widely influence and spread. Basically the bottom was able to have more influence over youth, the culture was already built on being rebellious without a cause but now the upside down world was broadcast and basically given a daily megaphone.
When you add the other side were probably late to those type of platforms, didnt know or understand how to market themselves properly (who the fukk self describes as "educated lame"
), have negative connotations associated with basic things like knowledge, education, proper dictation or maybe even value of code switching with is basically shunned as talking white, trying to be white, etc. You have a hard time keeping the youth when competing with party and bullshyt compared to discipline and hard work.
Being slow to technology and understanding value/use created more blindspots because while they still extolling the old days these early adopters were promoting a lifestyle that is attractive, most of them were selling fake dreams but there is a growing segment making real money on platforms while selling the degeneracy also. Now new generation on slippery slope, good luck getting them off..
