At sleepovers outside of a house phone there wasn’t contact with the outside world during a sleepover.

A phone is not just a "phone" in 2024 its more like a wallet or purse with all the PII they contain. I wouldn't surrender my phone either.

I agree with this too, the parents that I know who enforce these kinds of rules tend to be the types that want to force that nostalgic feeling from when they were kids.

A kid can go without a cell phone for 8-12 hours though.
