There’s a theory out saying that Freddy was actually innocent when he was human. The events in Nightmare on Elm street 1 indicate that Nancy’s (main character) Mom was the real child killer. Her and her police officer husband tried to frame Freddy which is the reason why there was a mistrial. They then riled up some of the other parents in town and killed Freddy.
