WTF is going on we have singers who can’t sing. Rappers who can’t rap. This is what happens when you eliminate A&Rs and give that power to the “fans”. Consumers are idiots that don’t want to do shyt but consume as much as possible which is why these artists have such a high turnover rate. If it wasn’t for labels a lot of artists would only have 15 seconds of fame instead of 15 minutes.

it's totally amateur hour but that's become the new paradigm. And best believe it wasn't like this in the 90s. Even as a kid who wasn't thinking too much about this hip hop shyt, I knew that to be a rapper you had to be something special. I remember that goofy ass "Because I Got High" song getting buzz and I couldn't fukk with it because it sounded like amateur hour. Besides, it was more of a cac-geared novelty song. People in hip hop weren't listening to it like that.

The reality is that most people are threatened by unique brilliance. They embrace what they can relate to, and that is often unbelievable mediocrity. The story Kool G Rap once told about how one of his boys swore he could rap, and the other cats in G Rap's circle kept telling G Rap "yo, he just as nice as you." And finally G Rap heard the dude and the dude was complete trash :laff: The average person can't tell the difference in quality, and there are levels to this shyt.

The sad thing is that by making things amateur hour, labels are actually way more powerful now than ever. Because they're the only ones that can push the button and blast through the 'noise'. This is why we see way more plants now than ever.
