I understood why he took them completely off the table but I still laughed whenever it was bought up..

Me and Kev is in the same demographic/age bracket. Most of the HVM stuff is straight out of Talented Tenth/Boule/Black Greek Letter Organization.

It was weird to me that most folks weren't familiar with the concept tbh.

It's still weird to me.

But Athletes, Actors, Singers, Artists, Rappers - they have fame and money - but they're not high value to the community.

It's why Bill Cosby wasn't accepted in those ranks, but his wife was.

Decades of celeb culture, reality TV, etc - has changed what the average Black person knows about Black Culture, and arguably culture at large.

Breh I think a lot of people now don't understand the idea of class or "Our kinda people."

Exactly.

At the same time, Kevin and his/my demographic, doesn't seem to understand that our people don't understand that.

He kept trying to straddle the line between getting married in 6 months (conservative) and "exercising" options. (liberal)

Trying to mixing in "realpolitik" and "red pill" into Black cultural/social norms.

If you're gonna be a family man/sole provider and "credit to the race" - you can't be smashing chicks on the side.

That Martin/Coretta dynamic (Where King is smashing everything - like Michael Eric Dyson/Cornell West - and Coretta gotta live down the embarrassment only for the FBI to throw it in his face...) was less than ideal. (Word to Jonathan Majors)

Yeah. I think he should have left the mack stuff to Alpha Male Strategies and the like. It diluted his message. I also don't think that the uninitiated and uninformed about the above would really be interested in conservative family structure anyway.

The show was for women to call in, and for him to beat them with logic.
First time many of us have seen a woman "put in her place" in public.

Meanwhile nobody cared when he was tearing men up, lol.

It's a rare woman that wants that conservative family structure and all of its restriction.

And if we think John Henryism is a problem with Black Men today....

All very true. I wonder why no one cared when he tore into men? Or was it men just didn't complain?

Yea it’s a class thing. It’s not just about money, but career. I’m sure part of why Diahann Carroll said her family didn’t want her to be an actress…

It’s because a lot of the visible wealth in our community is in entertainment.

It’s common to other groups for their wealthy folks to make their money in business, tech, finance, etc. We have that too, but the focus is on entertainers. It’s the entrepreneurs, medical and legal professionals, educators, etc who elevate the people. This is why other communities are so big on education.
