Thoughts on Kobe/LBJ being the next Jordan

As a Celtics fan, its hard to say I actually like both of these players. I would rank Kobe 1a and LBJ 1b (Yes, Kobe is just ahead of LBJ).

Merge if you don't think this is unique enough for its own thread. This isn't really about stats so much as its about expectations and generational thinking.

These are my thoughts on the "second coming" of Michael Jordan and being the GOAT.

Kobe was cursed from the start. The world was waiting for another Michael Jordan. Everyone was hailing people to be the "next Mike". When it was Kobe's turn he ran with it. He played like Mike. He was the "next Michael Jordan" and he stayed right there. He was MJ v2 but not quite there. He can never surpass Jordan cuz he's an imitation.

LeBron has a chance to surpass Jordan. He is a generation behind Kobe's class. The "next Jordan" stigma wasn't as strong to him personally and to the league at the time as well. Yes, he was compared to Jordan but not to the extent of Kobe and all the others in the mid 90's draft classes. LeBron isn't a V2 of anyone. His size and style are unique. If he gets the personal accolades as well as the championships, he has a chance to be greater than Jordan.


Both are great players and top 15 in history but out of these two I think only LeBron has a chance to exceed MJ's accomplishments, skill, and aura.

Like i said, Lebron doesn't have "SKILL" he only has his body and athleticism. Lebron doesn't have the skill set that Kobe has. Kobe's game is like a beautiful piece of artwork, Lebron is just sloppy but his passing is beautiful. Once Lebron athleticism fades so will his game. What do you people not understand??

Look at Kobe recent games, that alone should prove to you why Kobe is the better player. Lebron not making them type of shots breh.

Lebron will surpass MJ in STATS, and stats alone.

People that dont really watch or understand basketball say dumb shyt like "kobe is a MJ imitation." It doesnt surprise me at all that your a celtics fan

MJ took from those that came before him the same way Kobe has done. Kobe's studied the game going back to the 50's, hes got a little bit of everybody in him. But at least in my opinion Kobe's footwork and offensive skills are unmatched.

MJ was a better all around player and physically more dominant then Kobe
