Didn't see a thread about this. My friends from Iraq on FB posting a lot about this.




Large-scale protests over the last few days over large scale state corruption, government dysfunction, high unemployment and the corrupt politicians. Prime Minister tried to give a speech about it but they trolling him

Some of the country's most prominent Shi'a clerics, especially Ayatollah Al-Sistani the most important Shi'a cleric in the country, but also Muqtada al-Sadr saying the government needs to reform corruption. al-Sadr saying there should be snap elections.

It's interesting that al-Saqr is complaining about Iranian interference. Wasn't it the Iranians that put him in power? Isn't he still allied with them?

nah Sadr doesnt fukk with them. hes an iraqi nationalist its the dawa and the paramilitary Shi’a parties that are with Iran. Sadr even met princes in Saudia and the Emirates who hate Iran

An Iraqi human rights commission said on Saturday that the death toll from four days of anti-government protests in Baghdad and other Iraqi provinces rose to 93, while 3,978 others were injured.

Of all 567 arrested protesters, 355 have been released, while the others remained in detention centers, the statement read.
