@ThreeLetterAgency

I read on here that you was into neuroscience.

We know the amygdala being either overactive or atrophied will suppress the prefrontal cortex and overcome the normal functioning of the hippocampus. Which can cause people to do some pretty foul things.

For instance the Charles Whitman case where he killed 19 people and injured 31 and it was found that he had a tumor on his amygdala.

Charles Whitman - Wikipedia

And the guy in Miami who ate the guys face cause he was high off bat salts, which happened because his prefrontal cortex was disordered from drug induced psychosis

Cannibal Attack May Be Latest 'Bath Salts' Incident.

I've seen studies which show high dose Fish Oil works really good on improving the normal functioning of the amygdala and hippocampus, also studies show it works comparable to antidepressants.

I've experienced this benefit, and my sugar cravings has gone down tremendously also.

I notice people in the medical sciences dismiss basic things until they realized CoQ10, MgO, and folate for homo cysteine is a really good treatment option. My coworkers are not feeling my omega-3 theories.

How do you feel about this?

the effect that cardio has on the brain is 10000x more signficant than fish oil

look up BDNF

Cardio increases norepinerphrine levels this is a tried and true concept, that is no longer theory but has evidence supported through 30 years of research. I'm not talking about the brain function, but the effects the temporal lobes have on the cortical area.

I tried to be as narrow as possible and you bring up some stuff dealing with the HPA axis and baroreceptors.

evidence on fish oil is nil to none, last I checked.

A lot of times people want to equate mere diet to neurological changes...thats damn near alchemy.

We found out Vitamin D fixed rickets and Vitamin C fixed scurvy, now everyone thinks they can find the magic potion in diet form.

It doesn't work that way.

With respect to folate, it helps with pregnant mothers who at increased risk of neural tube deformation, but again, the discovery of one crucial dietary component doesn't mean that chew tree bark will cure cancer...See: Steve Jobs. :francis:

Have you ever been to or participated in a Journal Club? or a lab meeting? or literature review?

A lot of research is flat out bullshyt that tries to extrapolate and use associations to make projections.

SO when you read "well this claims to improve depression" or "this asserts an impact on PFC function"...was it a meta analysis? Was it an RCT? Where was it done? When? How good is the metholodogy? Is the journal its published in reputable?

I can't reply to vague claims because not only is dietary supplementation so hit and miss, but the science underlying it is so shoddy.

This question doesn't make sense no offense.

:whoa: btw im no expert( so don't take this as an attack), I just remembered taking intro to psychology, abnormal psychology, and physiological psychology ( had to complete my social science requirements) . Some of these functions seem off to me. I feel like this is a trap for @ThreeLetterAgency I think somebody switching functions or something.

Journal club? Are you serious.

The interns do journal clubs, I do the in service.

Literature review is what I would have done to find article in the first place.

I can't say I was not warned.

Just stop.

a lot of that could just be a simple placebo effect.

However, I am a strong believer(as are many scientists) that diet has a large impact on physical and mental health.

Well, prove if the functions of those brain structures are off. Can you post just one source that shows what I said about the temporal lobe is wrong?

Brain studies have show improved size and function of the hippocampus and amygdala.

Along with clinical improvement.
