New dating app 3nder – pronounced ‘Thrinder’ to rhyme with Tinder – allows users to find partners willing to take part in a threesome.
Now, the tech start-up has raised $500,000 seed round from two anonymous angel investors.
“Nowadays more people are looking for relationships that are designed with more freedom in mind,” founder Dimo Trifonov said, according to Tech City News.
“We are building the first safe environment for open minded people where they can meet likeminded partners, and the response has been fantastic.
“Consensual non-monogamy for singles and couples is becoming more prevalent, especially among young people.“
Launched last year, the app says it allows “kinky, curious and open-minded singles and couples” to match, exchange photos, group message and arrange meetings.
And the app – which is for all ages and orientations – has proved hugely popular so far, boasting almost one million downloads.
Users are sending about 1.2 million messages a month, while logging around 4 million swipes.
In the US, New York is 3nder’s second-biggest market behind California.
One of the investors, known only as Victor, said he believes the design of the app will help attract more users in an “underserved market”.
“We believe our investment will help growth by initiating active marketing and improving scalability for the next million users and beyond," he added.
Trifonov said he was inspired to create the app after his own long-term girlfriend admitted an attraction to another woman.
The company is also beginning talks with investors and entrepreneurs to help develop 3nder further.
