I wouldn't be surprised if they did. Biden seems to be in agreement with hawks on China and doing anything to stifle their growth when it comes to technology. With all this spy balloon business it might be enough ammo for Congress to push some legislation through. They've already started banning cameras and various electronic devices made by Chinese manufacturers here in the U.S. and Europe.

With the spy balloon issue this is the time to drop the hammer on Tik Tok if they want. The public will be more accepting of it because they can make the connection to the balloon and how China is going full force spying.

nah. TikTok has a better economy than Vine or other short-form content apps.

There's businesses, gurus (often fake, but still), booktok (where people sell and review books), etc. They did a far better job of building a community on there.

vs have dibs on essentially all of US Gen Z.

If they know every like, dislike, and overall who you are as a person....then they can craft anything to manipulate you #gameover

it's dicey for biden to do it since whichever party or president bans tiktok will have pissed off a lot of gen-z's and people earning money off the platform. theres also the fact that activists, labor unions and educators who lean left use it to great effect. it's not as easy to troll or spread propaganda on tiktok with rightwing content as it is with facebook, twitter or reddit since a lot of those agents don't want to put their face next to thier propaganda.

i've seen stitches from right-wing accounts thats just voiceover replies to progressive or antiracist videos.

I'm not convinced those gen-z'ers and individuals making money on the platform are enough to stave off hawkish militarism. Also remember defense contractors stand to make way more money than those folks you named are making. Look at the fleet of ships they built to combat terrorism that turned out to all be trash. As soon as DoD wanted to get rid of them the defense contractors that were doing the maintenance on the ships immediately got Congress to stop the DoD from scrapping them. I don't know that influencers have that kind of clout with the government yet.

I LIVE IN A CARDBOARD BOX!
Facebook is dying.
Twitter is dying.
Tik Tok is dying.
The Coli is dying.

Oh wait, they're all still here and doing just fine. I'm honestly rooting for one major social media platform to die just so the "[insert name here] is dying" crowd will be proven right for once and I'll be able to say that I was legitimately surprised.

It’s weird that they’re going so hard to get the most popular social media app out of here. Are they hoping to get people to go back to Facebook or instagram? Good luck with that. A lot of people will lose out if that app is banned. I’d imagine that a big fight would happen after that.
