TikTok was caught shipping user location data to Chinese servers for unknown reasons (could be so the Chinese gov can monitor expats or visa holders). Their under investigation all over the place:

An incompetent, aged Congress combined with strong tech lobbying is a dangerous combination.

I’m 43 (:flabbynsick:) and highly doubt I’ll see a major, national data security law passed a la GDPR in my lifetime. The data as a commodity horse is long gone from the barn.

TikTok is a Chinese spy app. It needs to be banned.
People make the argument that American companies spy for the American government but I live here and can vote out a government I don't like. Unlike communist China where the same person is essentially president for life until they are no longer useful.

it's a trump ban that never existed in practice. also, the trump ban didn't have anything to do with the corrosive nature of the app (that's personal freedom) and more about how the CCP had access to american users data and they were trying to get them to separate and sell a US division to oracle. that received several legal challenges and was ruled illegal in dec 2020 (before biden even got into office). so they went back to the drawing board and looked for a solution that could be considered legal. now US users data is being stored on oracle servers as part of some biden admin project name project texas (oracle's HQ) with more work to do.
