Holmes is my favorite fighter, but the crossblock is kryptonite to fighters like Ali and Holmes that utilize the jab heavily. That's why Norton beat Ali and nearly beat Holmes.

Of course with boxing politics they weren't going to give Witherspoon the decision unless it was a complete beat down, but Witherspoon neutralized Holmes and beat him to the punch the majority of the fight.

I scored that 115-114 for Spoon. 9th round was a classic. Mike Weaver also gave Larry hell in their first fight, I think that was Holmes’s most exciting title defense.

Spoon was very good, but inconsistent and lazy. They didn’t call the 80s HW era a lost generation for nothing.

King screwed him over bad, Spoon was supposed to get a million for fighting Bruno and made around $100k. Don’s stepson Carl was “managing” a lot of his fighters.

There’s long been talk that Tim tanked the Bonecrusher rematch, or plain just didn’t care, because of all the mess with King.
