Im not really into horse races but what this horse did is unreal. He is the true goat.

He set race records in all three events in the series – the Kentucky Derby (1:59 2/5), the Preakness Stakes (1:53), and the Belmont Stakes (2:24) – records that still stand today.

The second place finisher in the 1973 Belmont - Twice A Prince finished at 2:28.2...31 lengths behind.

Yesterdays winner at Belmont, Tonalist won at 2:28.52, he would have lost by between 31-32 lengths

shyt gives you goosebumps, the longer the race went, the faster he got

You know Secretariat got p*ssy for days when he got put out to stud :banderas:

Put out to stud in late 1973, he sired nearly 600 foals, including one horse that sold for more than $1 million at auction—but nearly all of his male offspring failed miserably at the racetrack. Secretariat’s grandsires fared a bit better, with grandsons A.P. Indy a Horse of the Year winner and great-granddaughter Rags to Riches the 2007 Belmont Stakes champion.

:whew:
With today's modern training and equipment though :troll:

Real talk though, that other horse, Sham, that ran against Secretariat in the '73 triple crown seemed like a beast in his own right :patrice:

I saw that :ehh:. Too bad he went out like a punk and fell back to fifth to finish

Wasnt his heart absolutely huge beyond reason?

At the time of Secretariat's death, the veterinarian who performed the necropsy, Dr. Thomas Swerczek, head pathologist at the University of Kentucky, did not weigh Secretariat's heart, but stated, "We just stood there in stunned silence. We couldn’t believe it. The heart was perfect. There were no problems with it. It was just this huge engine."[35] Later, Swerczek also performed a necropsy on Sham, who died in 1993. Swerczek did weigh Sham's heart, and it was 18 pounds (8.2 kg). Based on Sham's measurement, and having necropsied both horses, he estimated Secretariat's heart probably weighed 22 pounds (10.0 kg),[34] or about two-and-three-quarters times as large as that of the average horse
I suspect horse growth hormone

From what I just read though... Sham had just lost the first two legs of the triple crown, while finishing 2nd to Secretariat

The training staff for Sham wanted to switch up their strategy and run the race even with Secretariat the entire time, Sham was more of a stalker than an early front runner. Obviously that strategy failed, but they knew they couldnt out out run Secretariat in any other way

Yea I watched a doc on Secretariat a few years ago and they said if Sham had came any other year he would have been a triple crown winner and remembered as one of the greatest horses of all time.

Also in that same doc they said a few years after they had retired they brought Secretariat to Shams home ranch or whatever to mate with one of the females there, and apparently the homie Sham could sense he was there and started bucking in his stall like he wanted to throw hands :heh:
