Gervonta "Tank" Davis is back

Only 4 months after winning his first world title vs Jose Pedraza

Davis is now headlining an afternoon SHOWTIME card in the UK vs the undefeated Liam Walsh

Many felt and stated Davis wasn't ready for a champion as good as Pedraza but he proved em wrong

Davis came out strong, withstood Pedraza's comeback and put Pedraza on his back

Tevin Farmer couldn't do that but Davis did

Which is why he's being given an opportunity this big

Walsh isn't an undefeated stiff and has a great comeback story for himself

Walsh has come back from a severe car accident to fight himself back into title contention

But I gotta feeling he won't be able to withstand going head to head with a Bmore bred Tank

Warren: Gervonta Davis vs. Walsh Reminds Me of Calzaghe-Lacy

At the Copper Box Arena, London, next Saturday unbeaten Liam Walsh steps into the ring to challenge one of the youngest Champions in boxing Gervonta Davis. He has the backing of promoter Floyd Mayweather and holds the IBF World Super-Featherweight Title.

Speaking to iFL TV, Walsh’s promoter Frank Warren was firmly behind his man: “It has the ingredients of being a fantastic fight. Gervonta Davis is on Showtime, all the Yanks think he’s the next big thing. He has the money man behind him, Floyd [Mayweather].

“[Davis] ticks all the boxes as far as publicity is concerned and you’ve got Liam Walsh, who should’ve fought for a World Title a couple of times but had injuries, he’s now in with this guy and I think he’s going to win it!”

Both fighters are unbeaten, Liam Walsh is the taller man and a southpaw switch-hitter but has been dismissed as, “easy work” by Mayweather and his protege.

Warren says the American under-rates his southpaw opponent, “I like Gervonta Davis but this fight reminds me of Joe Calzaghe v [Jeff] Lacy, if [Davis] is as good as they say we’re gonna know because he’s in with one of the best boxers in this country.

“I want [Davis] to dismiss [Walsh] because soon as the bell goes, if he thinks he’s coming over here for a walkover, he’ll look at his corner and think ‘you told me it’s not going to be like this.’ Course they’re [overlooking] Walsh. Everyone’s going to have to take their hat off to him because as I understand no one gives him a chance.”

Watch Liam Walsh challenge for Gervonta Davis IBF Super-Featherweight Title, May 20th at the Copper Box Arena, live on BoxNation. Sky customers can Buy BoxNation with offer code ‘MAYBOXING’ for free registration (normally an £8 fee).

Its like I saw someone else say on twitter, Calzaghe vs Lacy is the only fight British boxing fans have ever seen. They reference that fight with Brook vs Spence too.
