he messed up but I actually believe it. he carrys a firearm to protect his family, and he forgot it was in the bag. I mean really if he wanted to transport it would it have been in his CARRY ON luggage?

carrying a pistol into an airport isn't a federal crime. Carrying it on the plane is. They caught it before he boarded and it seems like he was cooperative and admitted he made an error.
