It's because it never lived up to the potential it set for itself. 1st half was strong, but then it fizzled out in the 2nd half and kept dragging. Plus you never got that dope finale battle either.

Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann did what Franxx was trying to do, but much better imo.

Deadman Wonderland was dope tho. No complaints there.

See I didn't think it fizzled out during the 2nd half, it completely switched gears into another sub-genre which changed the entire identity of the show going forward. It was a bold shift that you don't see often in any medium, placing the major set pieces from the early portion in the background for the latter half as your story evolves.

You can understand why it's not attempted more often because you end up with people who feel like you & many others; a bait and switch for their original interest. Which is fair but I enjoyed it, really felt like the show evolved as you were watching. So I get where you're coming from.

Deadman Wonderland would be in my top 5 if it wasn't so short.

To this day, I'm still baffled & pissed at them for cutting that short. Everything from the animation to the characters to the concept were beautiful and fresh. Then they just dropped it.

The 2nd half had potential but I don't think it was executed properly. They kept building shyt up with the story and you had the feeling that the ending was going to be epic as fukk, but then it killed its own momentum with the way it paced out the story. I like how they fleshed out and developed all the characters, but then that's what makes the ending so disappointing because the payoff was so lacking for all of the earlier effort.

For me, it made a potential great anime turn into an average one with some real dope moments scattered throughout.
