It’s true. I learned this in high school. It’s driven by American culture and commercial interests. I still shower everyday, sometimes 2x, but that doesn’t mean it’s hygienically necessary.

Sure, but that’s just because it’s what we’ve come to adopt culturally. There are large swaths of the world, including “developed”/industrial nations, that don’t shower as frequently as we do. I believe the UK is one of them. It’s often brought up in discussions of environmental impact and water conservation .
