Agree to disagree. My favorite Durk song is Homebody and if it couldn't be searched online as a single I would not look forward to the prospect of sifting through his projects to find it. That's a quality control issue. The problem here isn't people not listening to entire albums, it's that nikkas entire albums just be 15 tracks slapped together and less than a quarter of the songs be actually good so it's better on your ears to just yank off the 3 decent tracks and leave the rest in the garbage. On the opposite end if the spectrum GKMC has stayed on the charts longer than any project in Hip-hop history (b b but the industry!), because it can be enjoyed as a cohesive full concept album as well as in single song portions.

I mean you mentioned earlier how nikkas on here can recite the whole tracklist of Nastradamus off memory (as if that's a bad thing) . I'm not a Nas fan but if people think of it in that way then spinning one song off it can up the spins off of other tracks naturally. That's a net positive
GKMC was from a different era

Why did he last album fall completely off the tracks? Was it bad quality or was it the simple fact that people are listening to single songs like @ISO and nothing from that album gained traction

And damn near none of that shyt has replay value. People that claim they are fans don’t even like it cuz they listen to these albums for 2 weeks and then move on to the next

It sucked. I mean that's practically the consensus from the fandom. Damn & TPAB had similar longevity to GKMC, the former is 6 years old. Well into the career spans of folks like Durk and Lil Baby.

The whole era shyt in regards to still active artists like Kendrick is an overblown narrative folks made up so yall can make excuses for artists you like. Nobody in their right mind considers Kendrick some legacy artist from a bygone era. GKMC came out at the same time Drill was starting to blow up.

Yet it makes sense. Instead of listening to newer music, a lot of people are catching up on music they may have overlooked previously.
No, it’s stupid because it’s more old music and the old music is known

No different than Friends being the most watched show on Netflix

Homebody was on Just Cause Y’all Waited

It was a great tape not many skips had songs like Crossroads, 1773 Vulture, When I Was Little, Public Housing, Durkio Krazy, How I Know w/ Lil Baby...

GKMC is on the charts because songs like Money Trees and Don't Kill My Vibe have over a billion streams on Spotify alone lol not because anyone is sitting down listening to the full album. It was a mass marketed commercialized project that has been promoted as a classic/genre defining work and seminal project of Kendrick Lamar its his breakout album and at the time his “debut”. And back then Kendrick wasn't starving the fans he dropped OD, S80, GKMC three years in a row, lyrically and thematically dense projects with different production and before that he dropped Kendrick Lamar EP and C4 his Lil Wayne tribute project both in the same year and back then he actually did features in the industry and was all over TDE projects. He was working and feeding the fans. His music was actually good and raw then not this overly polished shyt meant for the white liberal intelligentsia to champion lol.

Most hip-hop consumers and the rappers themselves don't know albums or songs (particularly b-sides) like that bro that was the point I was making :manny:

Quality >>> quantity

Most of the projects released by these “stars” are disposable and easily forgotten
this part.

they'll have an album with 20 songs and I can only remember one or two tracks, two years later.

And the point is is that the old music is being streamed more than newer music. You may not like it, but it’s a tangible fact.

None of them artists are actual stars. Travis Scott probably the last real rap star to emerge that got a dedicated fanbase, not just pumped up streaming numbers. He been laying low but still gonna outdo all them
