We wasted about $40 million of cap space per year on Hill, Asik, Moore, and Ajinca... We ain't got money to spend. Demps should of gotten the boot, but Benson is too cheap to fire either of them. He is gonna let them live out their contracts and do more damage to the franchise. Monty may not be the best in-game coach, but he is pretty close to elite to coaching up talent and getting the most out of players. Gentry can't seem to do shyt in development and players have regressed badly.
The story goes like this...
We had shooters and let them walk.
We had assets and we traded them away.
We gave out contracts to bad players
We run a garbage system that using Demacrus Cousin as a spacer 3 point shooter(Lead our teams in 3pt attempts since his arrival) and push tempo when we got no mid-range shooters to make shoots.
We bring in players that can't make open shoots and terrible IQ.
I will say this... Pelicans did have a decent draft with Frank Jackson and picking up Peter Jok. It's just a shame that I don't think Gentry knows the right regimen to develop players to be better. It's a really sink or swim with Gentry and this is what I hate. Monty got a lot of players when he was able to coach them up that had no right to be good at all. Rivers, Vasquez, Lopez, and Evans to name a few. Gentry had his playoff squad and ran it into the ground.
The window to exploit the cap with bird rights is gonna close when we resign Cousin next year. They need to keep Jrue and move him to be a combo guard full-time. Bring in Lowry for cheap if possible. Try to get salary off the book(Asik can be stretched, Moore, Hill, and Ajinca need to get shipped off the books at their price). Coach the hell up Porter, Diallo, and Jackson over the next year. 2017 gonna be a 8th seed run at best till we develop some talent.
