On the heels of what is expected to be his farewell performance as Ethan Hunt, Tom Cruise is ready to revisit some of his other beloved roles.

The 4x Oscar nominee, who returns in Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning in theaters on May 23, recently said he’s “working on” a follow-up to Top Gun: Maverick (2022), as well as a sequel to his 1990 NASCAR drama Days of Thunder.

“Yeah, we’re thinking and talking about many different stories and what could we do and what’s possible,” he teased on Australia’s Today. “It took me 35 years to figure out Top Gun: Maverick, so all of these things we’re working on, we’re discussing Days of Thunder and Top Gun: Maverick

Cruise previously reprised his role as Captain Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell in Top Gun: Maverick after originating the role in the original 1986 aviator film. The long-awaited sequel surpassed $1.4 billion worldwide, earning an Oscar nomination for Best Picture.

“There’s numerous other films that we’re actively working on right now. I’m always shooting a film, prepping a film, posting a film,” Cruise continued. “I just finished a film with Alejandro Iñárritu too, who did The Revenant, and we’ll be coming out with that. That was an extraordinary experience and [Christopher McQuarrie] and I are always working on several different films

The untitled Iñárritu film, which is expected to premiere Oct. 2, 2026, is about the most powerful man in the world, embarking on a frantic mission to prove he is humanity’s savior before the disaster he’s unleashed destroys everything.

I cant blame him
he was in the wilderness there for awhile doing orginal films. He had a damn near 10 year run where everything he touched bascially bombed and I am still made at myself for not catching the Edge of Tommorow in theatres

at this point he'll just play the hits til he proably dies filming a stunt.

btw I would be suprised if this is actually the end of ethan hunt and mission films
